The brutal incineration of the police station at Batadraba, Assam, by members of a mob caused most of the valuable documents of Assam Police that were kept there to turn into ashes. Was it an orchestrated move? Well, going by various circumstantial reports in this regard, it is very much a possibility that cannot be denied. This incident has made us realise the need for a system that has been kept long on the back burner by various law enforcement agencies operating in Assam.
The former will suffice to the maintenance of all essential documentation on a case-by-case basis in a centralised format so that it can be accessed by the Assam Police at any given time. On the other hand, the setting up of a state criminal profiling system will help Assam Police monitor and mitigate crimes and profile criminals in general. Plus, the members of the general public could use this service of criminal profiling for various purposes such as tenant verification, employee verification, among other things. Such efforts will help in strengthening our State’s criminal law and justice
